Wyatt "Sonny" Kay Underwood

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and friend, Wyatt Kay (Sonny) Underwood 81 of Crow, WV passed away April 13, 2025 peacefully at Raleigh General Hospital.  He was surrounded by family members & friend as he went to be with the Lord.

Wyatt was born July 13, 1943 to the Late Geneva D. Morris and David N. Morris,(stepfather) of Crow, WV & Wyatt Gilkerson, (father) and Lois Gilkerson, of Glendale, AZ.

Wyatt grew up in Crow, WV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his beloved late wife Betty Burns Underwood, brothers-in-law Brooks Burns & wife Ina, Robert (Bobby) Burns.

Those left to cherish his memory includes his two sons, Douglas A. Underwood and wife Anita of Crow, WV, Robert (Rob) Underwood and wife MeriBeth of  Beckley, WV, three grandchildren, Tiffany M. Rice and husband Tyler of Morgantown, WV, Nicholas G. Underwood and wife Ana of St. Petersburg, FL and  Jade Underwood of Beckley, WV, two Great Grandchildren, Townes Micah Rice and Tobias Merle Rice of Morgantown, WV.  Brother-in-law, William (Bill) Burns and wife Marilyn of Beckley, WV, sister-in-law Drema Burns of Daniels, WV, nephews, Dean Burns and wife Blossem, stepdaughter Madi of North Carolina, Matt Burns and wife Samantha and son Darren of Athens, WV, Tyler Burns of Huntington, WV, niece, Brittany Burns of Beaver, WV. Cousins, Theresa Stafford and husband, Roger Johnson and wife Jean of Crow, WV, Roger Underwood and wife Becky of Crow, WV, and special friend, Ada Carpenter of Daniels, WV.

Wyatt graduated from Shady Spring High School, then went and served in the US Army in Germany.  Wyatt was an employee of the Appalachian Power Company where he served 32 yrs as a line serviceman.  Wyatt loved to travel, going to engine shows and estate auctions, watching sports and the news, Wyatt and his late wife Betty were members of the Calico Square Dance Club.

Wyatt was a kind, loving and gentle man who loved helping everyone out, he loved his friends, Richard & Mary (Missy) Carter, Roger & Tammy Adkins, and his church friends, and many more.

In keeping with his wishes, Wyatt will be cremated.

A Memorial Service will be held at Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 26, 2025  with Pastor Keith Manning officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
